10 out of 10 from Mickaël Loichon
Honestly we are super satisfied with Kia Ora! We booked our camper van on short notice and all the big rental companies were full… and this was our chance because we would not get the same quality-price ratio!!! Kia Ora was super competitive and much cheaper than the big companies! The van was brand new and everything’s worked perfectly! The owner was very friendly and relax during the reception at Christchurch!
It was our first time in a van and we would definitely go back with them for sure with no doubts!!!! Our experience was great!

Good Campers
The 6 passenger Volkswagon Camper van we rented in March 2019 was better than we hoped. Since it is a 2011 year model we expected it to exhibit more wear and tear (renter abuse) than what we encountered. With 23300 kilometers on the odometer it was not show room new but was in great repair, tidy and performed well. A couple of the cabinet door latches would not cooperate and a plastic clip intended to hold a broom handle was broken. The propane house heater worked like a champ on some of the chilly mornings. The 2.2 liter turbo diesel and 6 speed automatic transmission hauled us up and down the mountains without a problem. The best thing about Kia Ora Campervans are Steve and Vicki Paul, the owners. We had occasion to stop by a camper van store that is also the rental center for some of the “Big Name” rental companies. They have a waiting lounge that had over a dozen people trying to get their vehicles. A shuttle picked us up at the airport, took us to a car park where our camper van and Steve were waiting for us. Steve gave us a through orientation, advised us where to a small shopping center to get provisions and lunch. He then had us follow him to the shopping center where by chance we encountered him again at the restaurant he recommended. We asked him to joined us for lunch and he graciously accepted. During lunch we peppered him with questions about points of interest. He was a wealth of information and added greatly to the overall experience. “Good on You” Kia Ora.

Crafter review
We rented an older VW Crafter 2 berth for 6 weeks (pick up in CC and drop off in Auckland) and found the space sufficient for 2 ppl although I would recommend you bring collapsible luggage so it can be stored and not have to be moved every time you make up the bed. We chose Kia Ora more on the basis of good reviews and they did not disappoint. They threw in many extras which you have to pay for with other companies…. gps, bbq, outdoor table, lawn chairs, awning. They also added bicycles due to our long rental period which we loved! The solar panels helped tremendously in extending our “non electrical” night options.
We did have a break down on South Island but the service Steve and Vicky provided was tremendous, paying for a rental car and putting us up in very nice accommodations while we waited for a vehicle part. We did not have to sleep in our campervan in the garage parking lot as according to the garage owner, some companies make you do. Yes, it changed our schedule as we were on our way to the North Island the next day but we had the rental car within 1/2 hr of arriving at the garage and on we went. Vicky asked us where we wanted to go in the next few days and she arranged our rooms accordingly. She rebooked our North Island ferry ride and paid the difference for cancelling and rebooking. For the inconvenience, they also didn’t charge us for the diesel tax.
When you travel a lot you realize that no vacation will be completely perfect and if you have a positive attitude and go with the flow, you can turn most things into a positive experience. It turns out we saw many fantastic sights that we would’ve missed if we hadn’t had the breakdown as these areas were not on our original itinerary. Airpark Canterbury drop off only took a few mins with an immediate ride to the airport included. I can’t say enough about the good, prompt communication we had with Vicky on the entire journey…. we were treated like Gold!
Thank you from Bob & Jan
North and South Camper hire
We are return travellers to NZ and have hired both times with Kia Ora campers. Steve and Vicky communicate right from the start and everything is arranged. We we met very early AM at the airport by a wonderful friendly Chontelle who made us very welcome. We travelled both islands for just over a month and our van had everything we needed. Steve is contactable along the way and quick to help if any little issues pop up. We would 100% re book with this company again and highly recommend them to future travellers. Nomad review…
Had a great month on the north island in a Kia Ora Mercedes nomad. Really nice to drive, immaculately clean and well kitted out. We really enjoyed having the bar b q so we could cook outside. Everything went smoothly, no dramas. Steve and Vicky in head office were easily contactable for any queries and Eddie and his team at the depot made pick-up and drop-off a breeze. Highly recommend.

Steve & Vicky and the Kia Ora team are amazing
Steve & Vicky and the Kia Ora team are amazing. Everything from start to finish was as smooth as silk. The camper van (we had the Freedom Camper) was awesome and compared to our travel partners who chose a different company it was way better! More power, more features, bigger bathroom, entertainment system and also the little things were better we had every utensil you could need, good quality camping chairs and table, tools, washing line etc. etc. Every email we sent to Steve and Vicky was replied to within hours and always a friendly and helpful answer.
Our whole trip was 10/10!!!
Thanks again to the Kia Ora crew and we can not recommend Kia Ora campers enough. Worth every cent.

All is said in the rating ! We spent two times 4 weeks in a Kia Ora Mercedes 2 berth in February/March 2018 and 2019. Each time, great experience. Not a single mechanical problem with the van and Vicky and Steeve are very reactive to find a solution to any issue you could have, even when you create the problem a Sunday as we did this year 🙂
Kia Ora Campers is great value for money, we definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a simple, efficient and well maintained campervan.

We have rented a large 6-berth VW camper at Kia Ora with our 2 children for a full 3 months (Jan-April), after various offers from large providers did not convince us. The contact with Vicky and Steve was very straightforward and personal right from the start. The offered value for money also spoke for a booking. Kindly, Vicky also provided us with free bicycles and various other items due to the long rental period. The takeover in Christchurch was very straightforward and we were very happy with our vehicle. Very clean and everything worked, although the vehicle was a bit older (which we knew). The decor was meticulously maintained and not just equipped with the essentials. With Britz and the other big companies you have to buy a lot of additionals, which Kia Ora simply has provided from the start. For minor problems, Steve was easily available and very accommodating (replacement lights, chairs, etc.). We had no additional costs and also an extension of the rent was without any problems and with very attractive price indeed. We can highly recommend Kia Ora if you value personal contact and would like to directly support Kiwi people and not big companies. At Kia Ora you are in perfect hands. We will hopefully come back sometime!

We rented 3 different motorhomes from Kia Ora for 2 trips totaling 5 weeks. As we’d had no experience with motorhomes we researched extensively, drawing up comparison charts of prices, insurance policies, features of the vehicles and their add-ons and of course read all the Rankers reviews. We settled on Kia Ora as they rated well in several of the categories. We were delighted with our choice and would recommend them highly, in particular because you are dealing directly with the owners of your motorhome, Vicky and Steve. Throughout the booking process they were informative, friendly and very helpful with general advice we needed. At various times we communicated by phone, email and text and always found them to be prompt and thorough and their processes to be efficient and streamlined. We think there was more opportunity for flexibilty with dates and pick up and drop off sites when dealing directly with a smaller company.
We picked up 2 of the vans from Christchurch Airport with the handover done by staff of Airpark Canterbury, both of whom were very competent. The shuttle collected us within minutes of our call on landing.
We never had a single mechanical issue with all 3 vehicles, they drove very well and it was easy to see they were very well maintained. I was impressed by their cleanliness and fresh odour which was not the case with the fridges and mattresses of the more expensive vans we checked out at one of the larger companies (research for future group). On our travels we talked to other motorhome renters, some of whom were discontented and were envious of our vehicle at a similar price but more so of our ability to contact our owners 24/7 should we need to.
We were so impressed with our experience (and NZ!) that within a week we rebooked with Kia Ora. Due to a health condition I had purchased a pillow for the first hire, leaving it behind on purpose. It was waiting for me in the new motorhome some months later, having been stored by Vicky!

I was struggling to get any positive replies from the smaller, individual, Camper Van company’s in NZ, until I came across Rankers. What a truly great result that was. Within 24 hours, I was contacted by a number of companies, some saying they could help and others saying they were full. I received an email from Vicky at Kia Ora Campers, saying that although they could not meet my specific needs, they gave me some options to think about. Vicky could not have been more helpful, talked me through the process, as a virgin camper and they offered me a fantastic deal with a 4 berth camper.
Everything went smoothly and Ross from Kia Ora Campers met us at Auckland Airport and showed us everything we needed to know about the Camper. He understood we were inexperienced and took his time to explain all we needed to know. He is an asset to their team.
We went on our merry way, but within 48 hours disaster struck….we were parked up 30km north of Kiakoura and the Earthquake struck!! We were trapped between two massive landslides, the road was completely torn apart and we had to abandon our Camper Van…..it will be stuck there for at least 3 months. We were helicoptered to safety and taken to Blenheim.
PC Alan Hendrickson called Vicky at Kia Ora Campers for us, to explain the circumstances. I could not believe what happened in the next two hours.
Vicky from Kia Ora Campers called me back, saying that if we wanted, they would arrange for flights from Blenheim back to Christchurch, where they would provide us with an upgraded 6-berth Camper, at no cost at all to ourselves. Steve from Kia Ora Campers then sorted everything for us, booked our flights, arranged for our replacement Camper Van to be delivered to AKL, and after a short break, our Camper Van holiday was back on track.
To say that Vicky and Steve from Kia Ora Campers went beyond the call of duty is nothing short of an understatement.
This is all TRUE.
IF YOU WANT TO DEAL WITH THE BEST CAMPER VAN COMPANY….CALL Kia Ora Campers….end of.

We were looking for a small self-contained campervan and found the ideal van (we named her Rosemary) with Kia Ora Campers. We had a wonderful three weeks and enjoyed the freedom of self-contained travel. Easy booking process and great service from Kia Ora Campers. We had an unforeseeable technical issue with Rosemary, but there was great communication and they sorted out the repair promptly. Excellent value and we recommend Kia Ora Campers to others.
